What are zirconia crowns?
A zirconia crown is a full-coverage cap made of zirconium dioxide, a strong, tooth-coloured ceramic. Unlike a veneer, which is a thin shell bonded to the front of a tooth, a crown wraps the whole tooth, so it restores strength as well as appearance.
Who are zirconia crowns for?
Teeth that are heavily filled, root-treated, cracked or worn, and teeth that need protection rather than only a colour change. Crowns are also used to finish dental implants. If a tooth is healthy and only needs a cosmetic change, a veneer may be enough, we'll tell you honestly.
Zirconia crowns or veneers?
Veneers are the conservative, cosmetic choice for healthy teeth; crowns are the stronger, structural choice where a tooth is damaged. Many smile makeovers combine both. There's more in our veneers guide.
How many days does it take?
Usually two visits over about 5–7 days: the teeth are prepared and digitally designed first, then the zirconia crowns are produced in our in-house lab and fitted a few days later.
